Can’t Remote Login on Oracle

Sometimes you want to log on to your database server from another server. For example in Oracle Dataguard you want to log on to standby from the primary server.

When you want to log on, you may usually type

#sqlplus sys@STANDBY as sysdba

What if you can’t log on to STANBY instance like this ?

oracle@standby-server$ sqlplus /nolog

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.4.0 – Production on Wed Apr 2 06:33:50 2008

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

SQL> conn sys as sysdba
Enter password:
Connected.
SQL> conn sys@STANDBY as sysdba
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.

How to solve the problem ?

Just change your REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE parameter on your init.ora

from

REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=NONE

to

REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE

And the try to login with your SID just like example below

SQL> conn sys@STANDBY as sysdba
Enter password:
Connected.
