Can’t Start Oracle Listener

Someone on indo-oracle mailing list ask why he/she can’t start his/her listener

Starting /oracle/app/oracle/product/920/bin/tnslsnr: please wait…

TNSLSNR for HPUX: Version – Production
System parameter file is /oracle/app/oracle/product/920/network/admin/listener.ora
Log messages written to /oracle/app/oracle/product/920/network/log/listener.log

Listener failed to start. See the error message(s) above…

For problem like this you may do several step below to solve the problem
– Check whether you use correct user or not.
– Check whether $ORACLE_HOME and others environment variable has been set or not ?
– Check whether there is TCP.VALIDNODE_CHECKING=YES on sqlnet.ora or not ?
If your sqlnet.ora contain TCP.VALIDNODE_CHECKING=YES, you can unset it or configure the TCP.INVITED_NODES list to include the ip address or hostname of the server where the listener is failing to start.
